Torrent speeds fluctuate
I think that's reasonable. It will include buffers that have just been received from peers and may be queued up to be inserted into the cache as well. It will also include buffers that have been read from disk and are currently waiting in the send-queue to a peer that requested it.
What would be the metric for that? It would be the sum of disk. But I don't think that makes sense, a pinned block is still in the cache, and can be sent to multiple peers simultaneously. Being pinned just means it can't be evicted, since it's in use.

Nemo-qB mcmuttons Please post: The amount of RAM your machine has The minimum value you can manually set the cache to that does not result in the spikey behaviour does not need to an exact value, can be a ballpark within a few dozen MiB or so.
I recommend using a binary search procedure to make the process faster. For example, if MiB is good, try with 64 MiB. If still good, halve again. No need to go until the end, you'll reach a small interval of possible values in very short time. Some interesting things have happened while playing with the cache settings. Here are the test results, watch the speedgraphs too: MB Test 1: Looks fine, at some point it stayed stable at my max current download speed.
