Windows defender work with avg

We have been happy with running the free version of AVG on our laptop for a good number of years and never wish to replace it. Today, tho I noticed that my laptop was extremely slow while accessing my Google drive, so out of frustration tried checking on the different tools, etc. That's when I noticed for the first time I have a Windows Defender installed. I then switched it off, and noticed that my browsing was much faster, but then I tried to switch on my AVG and it seems it had been disabled presumably by Windows Defender.

How do I handle this? I obviously do not want to have two virus software running in the background, and I am quite happy to stick with my free version of AVG. Help please. This will ensure that none of the previous traces of AVG are left on your computer and you have an updated version. Please reboot your computer once, when AVG Clear tool ask for a computer reboot.
