I restared using safe mode and found that it hangs after loading the giveio. At first I thought i've messed up the CPU chip during the installation, so i bought a new 1. Too bad that this doesn't solve the problem at all. Then I unplugged all boards and hard disks except c drive and try again, that doesn't help also.

Strangely, this works without any problem!!! The CPU is the only thing that I've touched and i already have replace that. I've also tried to remove all peripherals that is not necessary for boot up. The last thing that i can think of is the VGA card and I've already try an old card also.

I don't think i can mess up my winxp installation by replacing my CPU heatsink! Any ideas? Guest Guest. This is not being caused by any hardware problems.

First off, you will want to put your 1. A lot of card reader programs use this driver though. If you get in, try removing software you don't need and look for a program called CPR. Also, try setting your system clock back before the problem occured.

Not sure why, but this has seemed to help others in the past. Aug 15, 9 0 18, 0. This happens as well when trying to reinstall windows. When coupling the disc to another PC as a slave , the PC will not boot. It boots windows as normally in the start from the Master disc , but then in the middle of the boot sequence, it starts to read the Slave, and the PC just hangs.

When trying to run Seagate diagnostic tools it hangs when trying to read the disc. Hi befuddled so i renamed giveio. Then reboot to windows. You need to copy or borrow an XP install disk for your version of XP. On the first screen you simply press R to go to the recovery console. Xhi you have access to his email address. IM me. Don't post my e-mail on the board, please. That is bigger than my mail box. I'll be e-mailing you. That is too big for an email.

I have sent Xhi the solution, so will leave it up to him now. From my understanding, you are correct. Working on it. What about uploading to a SkyDrive? MS Skydrive no. Too big. I meant MB all along. Biggest file sent so far was 1. No problems Mike. SYS could i rename this thing like i did with giveio. SYS idont see the giveio. Type in disable giveio.

You may have to rename it back for this to work. Where were you? I have never seen that in the command console. It should list all the drives that it finds a Windows installation on.

Simply type 1 or the appropriate number. Do you have an Win XP install disk? If you do use your Asus to try to get into the command console once in the console then type disable giveio. Sounds like a big adventure. I did find my origianl bios file and noted the installed version. One other time when I attempted this many years ago it said to do any upgrades in steps. I should be able to rever the order. I have already done one set-the-BIOS-to-defaults.

Should it matter if I run this from that HD? It is going to be in there at BIOS level regardless, right? I should go shopping for some more used HD's. I have saved to cd the original BIOS file now. Plus I have the two upgrades. Not sure or convinced this will solve the giveio. Has anyone actually had this problem with a solution? That seems very hard to find. I hit a Function key for Default Settings and Save then hit enter.

I've never tried to restore BIOS defaults using any type of file. Can you get into the event viewer on the HDD with the issues. Maybe you can see what's going on as far as to what types of errors are listed. You misunderstood. There a three known BIOS files for this machine: original and then two updates made a few months apart in about a year after the 'original.

I have not heard or seen that this is a real cure but only speculation, as other opinion about giveio. IOW no one has specified a solution who has had this problem. What version of XP are you using?

I had no problems before this clone job. I am looking for other methods to correct the problem than playing with a repair disk any longer. I'm seeking help on extracting my data and then simply wiping the disk and starting over. If it is possible to 'see' the content with a program such as Parted Magic loaded from CD I may be able separate out the boot sector from the content.

This is all new territory for me.
