Dragon quest viii dragovian trials guide

Strategy 2: Hero without dragon soul It gets a bit tricky since if you get unlucky and he blinds you, you will lose your physical attacks. If not Other than those, keep doing the same as before. Are you ready for the surprise? This bad boy has 2 very nasty surprises unlike all others before. First, he attacks 3 times boys and girls This means more chances to critical hit and also being cheesed by 3 critical hits that kills 3 team members. If that happens, then it's over.

You are doomed unless that member surviving was Yangus with enough acceleration to go first. Then Yangus must have the Kerplunk that can raise 3 members at once To make things worse, the second surprise is that his defense is off the charts Not only that, he does blinding attack as well with a flash of light that might blind you in mist. He also has a move that his eyes flash and puts one character to sleep.

I once thought having a ring can prevent this, but sadly it does not. It doesn't work because I tried it. Sick right? He has one downside though. Low hp is his only good side. He falls with to damage. So what do you do? Strategy 1: Hero with dragon soul This is fairly easy if you have a bit of luck.

Since he doesn't debuff you can raise to 50 tension and hit him with dragon soul. Since it ignores defense, it should still do the normal damage as usual. If lucky, you can end this in 1 or 2 hits. Just hope that he doesn't target the hero non-stop. Strategy 2: Hero without dragon soul This is very tricky now that you don't have a move like dragon soul which ignores defense.

So feeling down? Well don't give up yet. There are actually 2 other moves that ignore defense. I highly recommend that you have lightning thrust and executioner. With the hp being around to the first time around, that means you will need 5 to 7 critical hits. I found out from experience that it does around each time. LOL, yes I actually beat him doing this method at around level Although I prefer the dragon soul one. You might want to pray before you fight since this one can come down to relying on good old lady luck's pleasure.

You might actually want to oomph, but I never noticed any difference in damage or from tension for that matter Kabuff actually helps in this one since the extra defense might mean the difference between losing a character at 1 or 2 hits. He is a bit of a hybrid but no where near as hard as darksteel. He does debuff like silver dragon so relying on 50 tension is the way to go. The thing that is a bit unusual is that he normally attacks 2 times unless he tensions. He also uses his claws to attack sometimes, giving him another attack animation.

If he tensions, it would mostly be like attack first and tension 2 times. For this case use chilling chuckle or sarcastic snigger by Angelo. Getting hit by a 20 tension is a lot worse then a 5 tension attack. Also like darksteel, he has that annoying high magic defense which might make the battle a bit tricky.

As the worse case scenario, he might tension twice then attack with a cold breath attack. But I don't see this happen too often. He has around to Strategy 1: Hero with dragon soul Be sure to lower tension like I mentioned before.

Strategy 2: Hero without dragon soul As I said in the previous paragraph, he has a high magic defense. So physical attacks are the way to go. So stick to falcon slashes at 50 and don't use gigaslash or those types of attacks. Kind of weak dragon and not as challenging as darksteel was. Well if you think only one dragon left to go, then well think again. Sorry to ruin your hopes but you have 7 dragons left. Instead of going straight to the 7th dragon, our friendly Dragovian Lord gives you a challenge to go through all 7 dragons at once.

To make this worse, you do not get a chance to heal between each dragon. What you win with is what you get. So you really need to think about when you win as much as just winning. But the thing you can rejoice about is that all the dragons have half the hit points. So it will be a little bit easier. I guess the makers had some mercy in their hearts anyway.

The following is the range you should expect. Vermillion Dragon: to hp. Emeral Dragon: to hp. Silver Dragon: to hp. Golden Dragon: to hp. Darksteel Dragon: to hp. Divine Dragon: to hp. So it is not as bad as you think it is. If you manage to beat the previous 6 and make it to the ultimate dragon, get ready for the Ultimate experience. He is a little bit of every dragon as his name said. He uses the icy breath of divine, intimidating scream that knocks you down, debuffing wave of ice, and critical hits.

The good news is that he only attacks 2 times but does 3 moves by tensioning twice and attacking as the divine dragon did. Afterwards, he uses 1 attack to replenish his mp by praying. The only thing you need to worry about is the tension factor like divine.

If you are unlucky, he will tensions 2 times first and attack with magic burst or icy breath. This means you are in the world of party damage. I experienced this many times and it might tempt you to break a controller or two when you spent near an hour to get to him only to get cheesed.

So once again pray that he does tension twice after a attack. If he does this, use Angelo's lowering method to bring the tension down. A hp attack isn't nearly as bad as He falls around the range of to Strategy 1: Hero with dragon soul It will probably feel similar to fighting divine. Strategy 2: Hero without dragon soul He is very similar to divine dragon but without the annoying magic defense. There really isn't much to worry about other than the cheese factor You have survived the Dragovian Trials.

What order of prizes should I get? Well personally speaking, it depends on when you do the trial. The best is still alchemy pot upgrade since it saves a lot of time. The worst is the ultimate monster. The Ultimate Monster is not as bad as i originally thought. But it is not too much of a improvement from the team 'Wizards o'z' to 'The king and us'. The armor set is probably the better choice over the sword since defense is in greater demand over offense.

Besides there is no stronger weapon than the uber falcon since the 4x damage using falcon slash out does any and yes I mean any weapon. So get the armor set first then sword after. Why did I go through the trials so many times? In the first room that you reach, take the ramp downwards and search this bottom floor for Mini Medal Continue outside and take the right path. Follow the invisible stairs up to the next level.

This floor can be even more confusing. Start by following the path forward and up some more invisible stairs and eventually you will reach a chest containing Mini Medal Return back to the start of this area. You should be at the stairs that leads back down to the lower level.

Orient yourself so that you are facing the path that led to Mini Medal Go left around the circle until you reach the first set of invisible stairs to your right. Take these stairs up for a chest containing Mini Medal Return back down to the circular pathway. Walk right for a couple of steps to see another set of invisible stairs to your right. Take these stairs up. Follow the path to the second platform.

There should be two invisible sets of stairs here. Take the left one first which leads to a chest containing Orichalcum. Return back down and take the other stairs. Look left of the skull for the final chest which contains a Skull Helm. Continue following the path upward until you reach a giant door. Photograph the door for Dragon Gates and then enter the door. Head up the stairs to the Lord of Dragovians. Okay so I read that the recommended level for this boss is 42 which is what I listed.

I was at level 45 and this guy gave me problems. The boss gets One to Two Actions per round. He does have War Cry which could cause problems. He does seem to have a really high chance to Critical Hit unless if I got unlucky which will most likely kill the party member that it connects with even with Kabuff.

I recommend bringing several Elfin Elixirs as you may need them for Angelo. I also had two Sage's Stones , one given to Hero and the other to Jessica. I also gave a Timbrel of Tension to Jessica. I say the more defence and health that you have, the better. Psyche Up is going to be hit or miss here because you are going to have to deal with the War Cries or KOs. Watch the scene after the battle which explains the hero's origins. You are then given an Argon Ring. You are now free to do the Dragovian Trials.

Note1: These trials can only be tried after beating the Lord of the Dragovians the first time. Note2: You may want to get your party up to Level 65 for these trials You could do with lower levels for the earlier battles Note3: Elfin Elixir and Timbrel of Tension will be valuable here. Note4: There are a total of 6 Trials and a Final Battle. Each trial gets harder. Return back to the Lord of the Dragovians at the Heavenly Dais.

Take a photo of him for Cloud-Dwelling Clan Leader. Every trial includes two boss battles with the first battle never changing. After completing a trial, you are given the option of one of six rewards to choose from. By the end of the trials you should have won all of these rewards. I recommend the equipment first, followed by Memories Lane and finally Hev.

This battle isn't too bad which probably makes sense since it's always the first of two battles in the trials. That being said, if you know the boss is near death then make sure the party is fully healed because whatever they end the battle with is what they start the next battle with. This battle is basically the same as the first time we battled the Lord of the Dragovians.

At least he has less health this time. However, our starting health might not be good either based on how you ended the prior battle. For some reason, this battle did seem easier.

He wasn't Criticalling my party like the first time. Start the battle by healing as necessary. Other than that, follow the same strategy as the first time we battled him. Okay good, no Disruptive Wave however there are several attacks than can put some nasty status ailments on our party. Luckily we can craft Catholicon Rings to prevent that from happening.

This battle isn't much different compared to the prior two battles. The only difference are the Status Ailments. I went into the battle with full Catholic so this strategy will disregard anything pertaining to those four attacks. My strategy for this battle is the same as the prior two so just refer to them. This is an endurance battle due to the bosses health so make sure you have Yggdrasil Dew and Elfin Elixirs ready.

Well, Disruptive Wave has returned and it seems like he uses it quite frequent in this battle. He does have some high powered physical attacks however they didn't seem to give me as much trouble as prior battles. This boss did use Meditate a couple of times which was annoying, especially if you aren't doing at least damage. I don't recommend Psyching Up more than once. Overall this boss wasn't much of a problem for me.

I probably just got really lucky against him. I was Level 55 for this battle. I didn't find this boss to be that difficult to be honest. Maybe I just got lucky with the RNG. He has magic attacks but they aren't much of a threat, especially with magic protecting equipment. His main threat are his physicals and the Psyche Up. Looks simple right? Only 2, health with no Disruptive Wave? A fully Psyched Up Yangus could one-shot this dude, right?

First off, this boss can get up to Three Actions that usually reduces your party members' health by half. Secondly, this boss has a ridiculously high Defensive and Magic Defense stat so we can't even damage him, just like Metal Slimes right? Well that's the trick, we will be using our Metal Slime strategy to kill this boss. Now I am unsure as to how you would go about beating this boss if you didn't have any of the above abilities and you didn't have any skill points to unlock them.

So the strategy here is to try to land Critical Hits as they ignore defense. Morrie's Hand of God ability automatically ignores defense and doesn't have a chance to miss like the other abilities that I mentioned.

I went into this battle with an average level of 63 - 65 as I was mainly preparing for the next battle and I have to say I did struggle even being 10 levels above the recommended level.

We have Disruptive Wave to contend with. He likes to Psyche Up Twice and Attack which will instantly kill someone. I think he can get up to Three Attacks though it didn't seem like it happened frequently. He seemed to be very fast too, even when my party had Agility Accessories and Acceleratle on. Well that's the Sixth and final trial folks. I hope you all enjoyed. I myself wish there was a bit more variety, like Trial 5 provided. Now that you are done, you can do one more Trial which is a gauntlet with all 7 Dragons plus another Dragon.

This is mainly why my party was Level 65 for Trial 6. You are going to be needing Elfin Elixirs for the upcoming gauntlet as well as some full heal items like Greater Panaceas and Yggdrasil Dew.

It should be no problem stocking up on these items if you abused the casino like I did. Just a reminder, you must fight all of the previous Seven Dragons in a row, with now breaks, before fighting this boss. I highly recommend bringing Elfin Elixirs at the very least. You may also want to bring a Monster Party for this battle I did.

Well we all know about Disruptive Wave. The dragon can attack up to 3 Times. I also gave a Timbrel of Tension to Hero and Jessica. Keep in mind, the start of the battle could differ from mine based on your starting health and magic.

I was also able to start the battle fully healed. Welcome to the other super boss fights of the game. Once unlocked, Zoom to Marta's Cottage and then go into her cave and into the jail door.

You should see a glowing spot on the floor. Enter this spot to reach Memories Lane. Remember these are super boss fights. I recommend that you are Level 75 for these battles and to have the best possible gear for your party members.

Luckily you don't have to worry about a gauntlet at all. In addition you will want equipment that protects against magic and fire and ice based attacks. Overall I recommend all the top tiered equipment. You will see several Purple Chests throughout this area. They act like the Blue Chest with the exception that their loot is much better. That being said, you can loot them once per day.

You can leave and return whenever you want. You have to fight each boss once in the playthrough. The bosses can get two to three actions per turn. This boss seems to love spamming Cursed Mist which can curse everyone except the Hero. As far as I know there isn't anything to protect against Curse.

Luckily this boss is fairly easy to handle. I gave the Timbrel of Tensions to Hero and Jessica. Enter the room following the battle for a chest containing Elfin Elixir and Ethereal Stone. There is also a Purple Chest here. This boss battle comes with two supporting monsters. These monsters can be a nuisance. He will summon more monsters if you kill his support so I recommend killing the Skeleton at the very least to start.

In the next room are two chests with Mini Medal and Thanatos' Shield. There is also a Purple Chest. This boss is annoying in that he can Confuse your party, Instantly-Kill your party, and he has a high Critical Hit Rate.

I didn't try this but I am guessing Catholicon Rings will be very useful for this battle. I'm sure Catholicon Rings makes this boss battle much easier. This battle can be annoying due to the Confusion and Soul Moles that can Psyche Up and do some painful damage.

That being said, Catholicon Rings can be valuable here. You are definitely going to want multi-target attacks to hopefully clear out most of the Soul Moles. This boss hits hard and can get up to Three Actions.

You are going to want to be defensive for this battle. I recommend giving the Timbrel of Tension to Angelo and then having Hero focus on healing with Omniheal. Disruptive Wave is back and it seemed like he used it nearly every turn so buffing up might be hit or miss. He gets up to Three Actions which usual involves Psyching Up a couple of times and then attacking.

I also gave the Timbrel of Tensions to Hero and Angelo. Following the boss fight we have two more chests with Mini Medal and the Orichalcum Claws. There's another Purple Chest here. In addition, there's a branching pathway leading to another Purple Chest as well as a shortcut to the beginning. The major issue with this battle are the companions that accompany Gemon in battle.

You should lead off by killing the Dark Turkey in Mem first followed by Gemon. Don't kill both of his companions otherwise he will summon more. After this battle we have two more chests with Mini Medal and Orichalcum. There is no Purple Chest however you will be able to fully heal by interacting with the Monument.

We are at the point where the boss battles are going to start getting nasty, unfair, gimmicky, luck based. This is one of those battles because he has Intimidate which really ruins any Psyche Up strategies that you were planning on doing. Both Jessica and Red have the Toxic Sword ability. Now you may run into a situation where you don't have any skill points to access these abilities.

In that case, I don't know what to do. I would put Red and Jessica onto the team with Swords and hope to get Envenomate on the boss. Another annoying boss battle. He comes with two Dancing Flames in Mem with at least 3, HP each and they have a high defensive stat so it can take a long time to drain them of health. In addition, the Dark Servant in Mem has Kasnooze which makes things even more annoying.

Catholicon Rings seem like the recommended accessory for this battle. You may also want to bring Yggdrasil Dews. This battle gets easier once the Dancing Flames are killed off and you have a fully healed party. Following this battle is another room with a Seed of Defence and Ruinous Shield.

There will also be a Purple Chest. There's nothing too special about this boss. When you first arrive in town you'll want to go to the Elders' Building which is the largest building at the northern most end of town. Watch the scenes and when you're done you'll want to go to Munchie's house to rest.

Open your map, the building to the bottom right of the Elders' is where you're heading. You'll find the entrance under the bridge. Rest the night in here and in the morning you'll be able to go to the Heavenly Dias dungeon which is located in the same building that the Elders are in, just in the basement.

Prior to leaving town it's worth mentioning that the Item Shop here contains some goodies that aren't sold anywhere else, such as Dragon Dung, Devil's Tail and Premium Mould. It's worth stopping in to stock up on some of the items especially since we're not very far away from getting the instant Alchemy Pot. The Heavenly Dais dungeon is actually really easy unless you're unlucky. The enemies in here can be annoying, they can instant death your entire party and have a variety of annoying status ailments but they don't hit that hard and they're not too tough.

Only in the situations where you get unlucky will things be a challenge. Throughout this dungeon there is absolutely no reason for you to conserve your MP.

You also only face one boss at a time then he ports you out and you have to run all the way back through the dungeon to face the next boss. So, unload everything you got on the trash enemies, AoE every pack of them with your strongest attacks and just annihilate them. I'm not going to guide you through this dungeon because you'll literally be running through this dungeon 7 - 10 times to face all of the different bosses at the end.
